Elkhart welding business to be featured in 'Coolest Thing Made in Indiana' tournament

Nov 05, 2024Nov 05, 2024

Bond Technology is taking the lead on welding technology and applying it to making the world a safer place.

The company, based out of Elkhart, pitched an idea another company in Finland for a huge welding machine to safely store nuclear waste.

The 15-ton Canister Welder is the first of its kind, permanently sealing shut canisters of nuclear fuel before they are buried more than 1300 feet below ground.

Bond Technology submitted the machine as part of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce's fourth annual 'Coolest Thing Made in Indiana' competition.

The Vice-President of Bond Technology, John Bosker, said with more than 50 other companies in the running, the impact of their product had to be significant on the community.

"When we saw the 'Coolest Thing Made in Indiana,' we were thinking, well, what is the coolest thing we've done? And the thought was, well, what is going to impact this world the most?" said Bosker.

That machine is just one of the many different projects Bond Technology is working on.

Multiple business, universities, and government agencies work with Bond Technology, even NASA.

Bosker said his company embodies the word 'local.'

"What's advantage for that for us is that what you see behind me in these machines all these parts are manufactured locally. All the talent that it takes to design, weld, machine, assemble, wire, program, it's all available in this community," said Bosker.

For Bosker, Bond Technology has people come from all over the world focused on one idea.

"We work hard, we have fun, but it is focused on getting the job done," said Bosker.
